Every autumn the paint brands announce their color of the year, and every autumn they disagree. Not this time. The 2027 colors of the year are mostly green: Sherwin-Williams picked Celery, Benjamin Moore picked Webster Green, Behr picked Grounded and Dulux picked Soulful Sage.
Four greens, though, are not one green. One is a pale yellow-green, one a deep forest shade, one a brown-leaning olive and one a soft grey sage. Below: every 2027 pick in plain words, the brands that went another way, and how to use the trend without repainting a room you'll regret in two years.
The 2027 colors of the year at a glance
Sherwin-Williams: Celery (SW 6421), a light yellow-green. Benjamin Moore: Webster Green (HC-130), a deep green. Behr: Grounded (T27-01), an olive with brown undertones. Dulux: Soulful Sage, a pale grey-green.
Not green: Valspar Cottage Door (8004-38E), a grey-blue. C2 Paint Pueblo (C2-510), a dusty pink-terracotta. Dunn-Edwards French Press Coffee, a deep brown. Pantone usually announces in early December.
Why did most brands pick green for 2027?
Green has been creeping up for years: first as sage kitchen cabinets, then olive sofas, then whole rooms. For 2027 the brands treat it as a neutral rather than an accent. That's the real shift. Green is being sold as something you can live with on four walls, the way greige was ten years ago.
It also follows the move away from cool grey. Every one of the four greens leans warm or earthy, and it sits well with wood, linen and cream: the materials people already own.

The four greens, in plain words
Sherwin-Williams Celery (SW 6421)
A light, muted yellow-green that Sherwin-Williams calls a tinted neutral. It's the friendliest of the four: fresh in a kitchen or bathroom, and soft enough for a whole living room. Its yellow undertone needs light. In a dim, north-facing room it can turn flat and a little sallow, so sample it first.
Benjamin Moore Webster Green (HC-130)
The deepest of the greens, from Benjamin Moore's historic collection. This is the one for drama: kitchen cabinets, a study, a front door, a fully drenched dining room. Pair it with warm white trim, brass and dark wood. Benjamin Moore's own palette pairs it with White Down (OC-131).
Behr Grounded (T27-01)
A deep olive with brown undertones, which makes it the most earthy and the most forgiving with wood floors. It reads as green in daylight and almost khaki-brown in the evening. Good for living rooms and bedrooms that want warmth more than freshness.
Dulux Soulful Sage
A pale, silvery sage with a grey cast. It's the calmest pick and the easiest to live with as a wall color, especially in bedrooms. Because it leans grey, it pairs best with stone, linen and black accents rather than with orange-toned wood.

The 2027 picks that aren't green
Not every brand went green. Valspar picked Cottage Door, a classic blue with grey undertones. C2 Paint picked Pueblo, a warm shade between dusty pink and terracotta. Dunn-Edwards picked French Press Coffee, a deep, warm brown. Other brands announced too, among them Graham & Brown (Rose Earth), Dutch Boy (Deep Rooted) and Clark+Kensington (Vantage Point).
Different hues, same direction: muted, warm and a little earthy. None of them is a bright or a cool grey. If green isn't for you, the trend still tells you what to avoid: stark, cold color.
Pick your green by your light
The same green looks completely different in a north room and a south room. North light is cool and even: it pushes greens toward grey, so go warmer (Celery, Grounded). South light is warm and strong: every green works, and the deep ones like Webster Green glow instead of going dark. East and west rooms change through the day, so test the sample at the hour you actually use the room.

To find a green's undertone, hold the chip against a sheet of plain white printer paper. Next to pure white, the hidden color shows: yellow, grey or blue. That undertone tells you what to pair it with.

We go deeper on undertones, sampling and the right white in our guide to choosing green paint for your light.
How much green should you use?
There are two ways to do the trend well, and the in-between is where it goes wrong. Accent: keep the walls a warm neutral and bring green in through a chair, pillows, curtains and plants, about 10% of the room. Drenched: paint walls, trim and ceiling in one green and let wood and cream carry the rest. A single green accent wall in an otherwise grey room is the version that dates fastest.

Colors that go with the 2027 greens
Each green has partners it likes. The rule of thumb: warm greens want warm partners, grey greens want cool, quiet ones.
- Celery: cream, terracotta and walnut. The terracotta stops it looking too sweet.
- Webster Green: brass, ivory and dark wood. Classic and a little moody.
- Grounded: rust, oatmeal and light oak. Warm, relaxed, very 1970s-meets-now.
- Soulful Sage: soft white, stone grey and black. Calm and crisp.

Not ready to paint? Start small
You don't have to commit a whole room to a trend. Try it in steps and stop where you're happy:
- Test: plants, a green throw, one pillow. Costs little, moves anywhere.
- Touch: green curtains or a green upholstered chair. Bigger color, still not paint.
- Commit: one painted piece: kitchen cabinets, a bookcase, a door.
- Drench: walls, trim and ceiling in one green.

Where each green works best
- Living room: sage or olive. Soulful Sage or Grounded on the walls are easy to live with all day.
- Kitchen cabinets: deep green. Webster Green with brass hardware is the classic version.
- Bedroom: soft sage. Calm colors are easier to fall asleep to.
- Bathroom: Celery with white tile. Fresh, and it flatters skin more than cool greys.
- Front door: deep green. It reads as welcoming and works with brick, white or grey siding.
For olive in a bedroom, see how one cozy olive green bedroom pairs gingham bedding, warm wood and green glass.
Small, windowless bathrooms are the exception to "go light". A deep green on every surface often looks better than a pale one that just looks grey. Our small bathroom color drenching guide shows how.

What to do with trim and ceilings
Green walls raise the question of everything around them. Three options work:
- Crisp: white trim and ceiling. The traditional choice, it frames the green.
- Drenched: the same green on walls, trim and ceiling. It looks modern and blurs the edges of a small room, so it feels bigger.
- Soft: green walls and trim, and a ceiling one shade lighter. Lifts the room without the hard white line.
Use a satin or semi-gloss on trim even when it's the same color as the walls. The sheen difference keeps the detail visible.

What's out for 2027
The colors of the year are also a list of what's fading. Cool grey, stark white and all-beige rooms are on the way out. In: warm greens, earth tones like clay and mushroom, and creamy whites that look soft next to wood. You don't have to repaint a grey room tomorrow. Just stop buying more grey for it, and bring in warm wood and one green to start the shift.

2027 colors of the year: questions
What is the color of the year for 2027?
There isn't just one: each brand picks its own. For 2027, Sherwin-Williams chose Celery, Benjamin Moore chose Webster Green, Behr chose Grounded and Dulux chose Soulful Sage. Valspar chose a grey-blue, Cottage Door. Pantone usually announces its pick in early December.
Is green still in style for 2027?
Yes, more than ever. Four major paint brands picked a green for 2027, and they present it as a neutral for whole rooms, not only an accent. Warm, muted greens like sage, olive and celery are the safest choices.
What color is Sherwin-Williams Celery?
Celery (SW 6421) is a light, muted yellow-green with a soft yellow undertone. Sherwin-Williams calls it a tinted neutral. It looks best in rooms with good natural light and pairs well with cream, wood and terracotta.
Which 2027 green works in a north-facing room?
Go warmer: Celery or Grounded. North light is cool and pushes greens toward grey, so a green with a yellow or brown undertone holds its color better. Very grey greens can look dull there. Always test a large sample on the wall first.
What colors go with olive green walls?
Rust, oatmeal, cream and light oak are the easy partners for an olive like Behr Grounded. Terracotta and brass work too. Skip cool greys and stark white, which make olive look muddy.
