Four of the biggest paint brands picked their 2027 color of the year independently, and three of the four landed on green. When forecasts that rarely agree start agreeing, it's worth paying attention before you buy a sofa you'll keep for ten years.
Living room trends 2027, in one line: green as the new neutral, warm earth tones replacing cool grey, deep curved sofas, layouts built for conversation, and rooms that look collected over time rather than bought in a weekend. We only included trends that at least two independent sources agree on, linked so you can check them, plus what's going out and the cheapest way to try each one.

Living room color trends 2027
1. Green, everywhere
If there is one color story for 2027, it is green. Almost every major paint brand chose a green as its 2027 color of the year: Sherwin-Williams picked Celery, a soft yellow-green; Benjamin Moore chose Webster Green, a deep historic green; Behr went with Grounded, a mossy olive; and Dulux named Soulful Sage, a silvery, muted sage. Pantone usually announces its color in early December, so it was not out yet when we wrote this.
To pick the right shade for your own room, see how to choose green paint by undertone and window direction.
Every brand's pick, what each green looks like and how much of it to use are in our 2027 colors of the year guide.
The shift is toward greens that feel natural and calm: sage, olive, moss and deep forest, rather than bright emerald. They work because green behaves like a neutral: it sits well with wood, cream, brass and almost any accent.
How to try it: you do not need to paint. Start with one green piece of furniture, like an accent chair or a sofa, then repeat the green in two or three smaller places (pillows, a vase, plants). For a full example of a cream, olive and wood room, see our empty room makeover.

2. Warm earth tones and creamy neutrals
The cool grays and stark whites of the last decade keep fading. In their place: warm, creamy neutrals (think cream, oatmeal, sand) and earth tones like mushroom, clay, walnut, terracotta and tobacco. Coverage of Salone del Mobile 2026 describes warmer, creamier neutrals replacing cool grays, and designer forecasts name mushroom, clay, walnut and terracotta for walls and cabinetry.
How to try it: keep your neutral sofa and walls, and bring in warmth through wood, leather and clay: a terracotta lamp, a walnut side table, a tobacco-colored throw. One earthy piece in each corner of the room is enough.

3. Sofa trends 2027: deeper, curved, modular
Sofas keep getting deeper and softer. Seats are deeper, backs are lower, arms are rounder, and modular pieces you can rearrange are replacing the classic three-seater. Furniture fair coverage points to oversized, deep and often modular seating, and designers describe curved sectionals, puffy upholstery and daybeds under the label "bigger, sculptural comfort".
Sofa trends 2027 in short: deep seats, low backs, curves, modular sections, and fabrics with texture (more on those below) in creams, olives and earth tones.
How to try it: if you are replacing a sofa, choose a deeper seat (24 inches or more) and a modular or curved shape. If not, soften the one you have: add a deep throw, swap pillows for larger 22 x 22 inch ones, and pull it away from the wall.
The sectional below is our pick for the look: deep cloud-style cushions and a modular L shape that you can rearrange, at a fraction of what designer cloud sofas cost. Skip it if you need firm support for your back; cloud seats are soft by design.

4. Conversation layouts
Living rooms are being arranged around people instead of the TV. Forecasts describe two sofas facing each other across a low table and furniture designed for gathering. It is the opposite of every seat lined up against the walls pointing at a screen.
How to try it: face your sofa toward a pair of chairs or a second sofa, with the coffee table in between, and move the TV to the side or inside a cabinet. Keep seats close enough to talk, roughly 8 to 10 feet apart at most. If your current layout feels off, our guide to living room decorating mistakes shows how to fix the most common layout problems.

5. Sculptural wood furniture
Wood pieces are becoming small works of art: burl and figured wood, plinth bases, stepped profiles and chunky, rounded forms, especially in coffee tables and side tables. They pair naturally with the earth tones above.
This is also the trend most worth buying secondhand: solid wood coffee tables from the 1970s and 80s often have exactly the chunky, rounded shapes that 2027 collections are copying.
How to try it: make the coffee table the sculptural piece. A rounded, solid wood table with a pedestal or plinth base does more for a 2027 look than any accessory. Vintage stores and secondhand marketplaces are full of them.
Materials and textures for 2027
6. Rich, tactile textures
Texture is the quiet star of 2027. Velvet, wool, washed linen, mohair and aged leather come up in almost every forecast. Bouclé, everywhere for the last few years, is moving to a supporting role: designers list automatic bouclé among the things that feel dated.
How to try it: layer at least three textures on and around the sofa, such as a wool throw, a velvet pillow and a linen curtain. Natural fibers like wool and linen look better as they age, which fits the 2027 mood.
7. Raw meets refined
The 2027 room mixes rough and polished: lime plaster next to polished nickel, travertine next to lacquer, leather next to marble, wood next to metal. The contrast between warm and cold, matte and glossy is what makes a room feel designed.
How to try it: pair one rough, natural piece with one smooth, shiny one in the same spot, like a travertine or stone side table with a brass lamp, or a rough ceramic vase on a lacquered tray.
8. Glossy accents
After years of matte everything, shine is back in small doses: lacquered furniture, glazed ceramic lamp bases, polished brass and mirrored panels that bounce light and deepen color. Deep, jewel-like colors in lacquer or velvet are part of the same story.
How to try it: add one glossy piece per room, such as a glazed lamp, a lacquered tray or a brass mirror. More than that and the room starts to look busy.

9. The collected look and New Heritage
The biggest mood shift for 2027 is away from rooms that look bought in one afternoon. Designers call it the collected look, or "New Heritage": real antiques and traditional shapes mixed with modern pieces, inherited furniture next to new, and very few matching sets. The data agrees: Google reported in 2026 that interest in vintage decor hit a record high, with vintage braided rugs and vintage wood coffee tables leading the searches.
How to try it:
- Add one old thing to every room: a secondhand side table, a vintage mirror, an old painting.
- Break up matching sets: keep the sofa, swap the matching chair for a different shape or material.
- Choose natural, handmade materials: braided jute, terracotta, wool, solid wood.
- Display things you love: books you read, ceramics from a trip, family pieces.

10. Hidden, smart technology
Technology is disappearing into the room: TVs hidden in cabinetry or framed like art, speakers built into walls, motorized shades and smart lighting scenes. The goal is a calm room where the tech is there when you need it and invisible when you don't.
How to try it: start with lighting. Smart warm-white bulbs in your existing lamps let you set an evening scene that dims everything at once, no electrician needed. Then hide cables, and put the TV in or on a cabinet with doors if you can.

Is beige out of style in 2027?
Beige itself is not out, but flat beige-on-beige is. The "quiet luxury" look of beige walls, beige sofa and beige everything with no contrast is what designers now call dated. Warm creams and sand tones are very much in, as long as you add contrast and texture: a dark wood piece, a green chair, black frames, wool and linen. If your room is all beige, keep it and add one deep color and two new textures.
The same goes for gray: cool, blue-leaning grays are fading, while warm gray-greens and greige still work when paired with wood and warm light.
Living room trends going out in 2027
- Cool gray walls and sofas, replaced by warm creams and greens.
- Beige-on-beige with no contrast.
- Matching furniture sets bought all at once.
- Fluting on everything: fluted cabinets, fluted tables, fluted lamps.
- Bouclé on every piece. Keep one bouclé accent at most.
- The lone accent wall: one painted wall in an otherwise white room. Color drenching or color in furniture replaces it.
How to try the 2027 trends without redecorating
You do not need a new room for 2027. In order of impact for the money:
- Swap to warm, dimmable bulbs and add one lamp. Light changes the mood more than anything else.
- Add one green piece: pillows, a throw, an accent chair or a big plant.
- Bring in one vintage or handmade piece: a secondhand side table, a terracotta lamp, an old frame.
- Layer one natural texture: a wool throw or a jute rug.
- Rearrange for conversation: pull seats in to face each other.
- Edit: remove anything that only exists to match something else.
Start with the cheapest trend that fits your room: warm bulbs and one green piece. If you still like it in a month, the bigger changes (a deeper sofa, a vintage coffee table) will be easier to choose. Not sure which trends suit you? Take our style quiz.
